Audience Choice Awards for Winter 2018
NewFilmmakers Audience Choice Awards for Short and Feature Films are voted by our audiences each season. Over the Winter Season ( January - March ) we screened 151 new films. These award winning films were selected by our audiences for the Winter 2018 Audience Choice Awards.
The Audience Choice Award for Feature Film Winter 2018 was awarded to Dee Takos’ JIMBO about a criminal, recently released from prison, who tries to leave the life he led behind, but certain people from his past have other ideas.
The Audience Choice Award for Short Film Winter 2018 was awarded to two films, Rick Telesca’s MISADVENTURES OF BEING SINGLE about a woman recently returned to the dating scene after the break-up of a long-term relationship and Unnikrishnan Parameswaran’s DON’T BE AFRAID about an Indian Girl who is smart and yet devoid of opinions as ' having an opinion' was never an option.
The Audience Choice Award for our AltFest Series Winter 2018, our alternative lifestyles program, was awarded to Nicholas Giuricich’s BOY GIRL PARTS about Ryann and Alex, who following their first date navigate the roles laid out for them by society.
The Audience Choice Documentary Award Winter 2018 was awarded to Terrence Ross’ UNHEARD VOICES about three Saharawi women. Historically the Saharawi have been nomadic tribes who were revered for their poetry and philosophy.
The Audience Choice Experimental Award Winter 2018, curated by Lili White, was Rebecca Heidenberg’s THE WATER CHILDREN, a personal history of multiple pregnancy losses explored through stop motion animation and live action scenes.
Audience Choice Honorable Mentions Winter 2018 were awarded to Petra Priborska’s ANNA, Gianluca Morganti’s THE COOK, Aidan Macaluso PAINT THE ALPACAS, Stefanie Sparks’ IN CASE OF EMERGENCY, and Cesar Brodermann’s ARE YOU HOLDING ME? OR AM I HOLDING MYSELF?
Now in its twentieth year NewFilmmakers screens at Anthology Film Archives on the Lower East Side at 32 Second Avenue & 2nd Street. Tickets are $7 and are good for the whole night and go on sale at 5:30PM the night of performance at the Anthology Box Office. There is no advanced or online sales.
NewFilmmakers LA screens at the AT&T Center, 1139 S Hill Street, and has become a leading showcase for new films in Hollywood. Many features screened at NewFilmmakers are now available on NewFilmmakers Online.
